The paid directory listings section contains reviews of various paid directories to which I have submitted this or my client's sites. I am just starting to add new paid directory reviews of directories I recommend. Most of the directories listed here were previously reviewed in the Free Directory Listings section, but have since switched to a pay only service and therefore move here (they are noted as such since I probably wouldn't pay to be listed in some of them).

This page is a continual work in progress and your suggestions/experiences are appreciated.

Although this article is focused on free directories, the listing and editorial guidelines are pretty much the same. Submission Fee: What is the charge for inclusion or review (some directories still charge you, even if your submission is rejected). If the directory has multiple submission options, the details will be in the review and the Submission Fee field will list the price range.
Static Link: Is the link static (passes PageRank™) or redirected (type of redirect)? §
PR™: What is the PageRank™ of the directory's home page? Green background denotes a PR1 or better on interior pages two levels down (note: some sites do not show interior PR on the Google Toolbar, but they do an various PR Tools).
Register: Are you required to register or submit an email address?
Time Frame: Actual time for a verified submission or site stated time frame, if this site is not listed yet.
DL: Does the directory allow submission of interior pages (Deep Linking)?
IBL Shown: Does search engines show back links from this directory (see notes below).

Reviewed Paid Directories:

Go Guides - a highly respected human edited general directory thought to be considered an authority site by Google. Go Guides has very detailed submission guidelines which they actually seem to follow. My title and description received minor edits. They do rate websites with little people icons. I believe 3 little people is the best. My site was submitted via the Express Review service and received a 2 little people rating. They notify via email of your acceptance.

There is a volunteer editor program that I have not found the details for yet. I will check further and advise when I find something.

They have several paid submission options:

Express Review Service: $39.99 (review fee - not guaranteed acceptance) 2 business day review. Listing is locked from volunteer editors for 6 month. You have to follow editorial guidelines.
Easy Submit Service: $69.95 (refundable if not listed or reviewed in stated time frame) 24 hour guaranteed review and inclusion. Listing is permanently locked from volunteer editors. Staff reviewers write your title and description for you (I don't think that is good for most SEO efforts).
* SSM - Submission Specialists Membership Program: allows you to submit multiple sites. Your submissions are instantly included and your submissions are made tamper proof for six months from editors. I have joined this program to help with client submission. It took about a week to get approved.
- Senior Membership: can add a limit of 20 sites per month. Enrollment is $189.95, then a flat $39.95 per month.
- Junior Membership: can add a limit of 10 sites per month. Enrollment is $99.95, then a flat $29.95 per month.
- VIP Membership: can add a limit of 5 sites per month. Enrollment is $49.95, then a flat $19.95 per month.

Best of the Web! - is one of the original web directories. It is a quality, human edited, general directory with good interior PageRank and select listings. * They offer an annual review price of $79.95 and a lifetime review price of $239.95. Your inclusion is not guaranteed and your review fee is not refundable. They confirm your submission and notify you of the review outcome.

I submitted my resource directory to test deep linking and it was accepted in two days and in their index in 3 days.

Update: 09/01/06: Best of the Web has raised their one year submission fee to $69.95, from $49.95. The lifetime option remains the same price.

Update 2: 08/01/07: Best of the Web has increased their one-year submission fee to $79.95 from $69.95. They have also increased their lifetime option to $239.95 from $149.95.

Paid Directories: Moved here from free directory listings:

Best of the Web Blogs - is a ~~free~~ blog directory that accompanies their main directory above. They have excellent interior PageRank and they appear to be very selective. Their Express Blog Submit option guarantees review within 3 business days (not acceptance) They notify you of your acceptance via email.

Update: 11/19/06: BOTW has added an BOTW Blog Directory Express Submit Service for $39.95 one-time review fee to get your blog submission reviewed "quickly". This appears to be a non-guaranteed review. They also state this is for people that don't want to wait a month or two. Apparently the review time frame is getting longer.

Update 2: 08/01/07: Apparently BOTW Blog Directory has dropped their free submission option. Therefore, this directory was moved to paid from the free listings.

Greenstalk.com - is now a paid directory with an interesting twist. They allow you to add your main listing + 4 interior page text links, all for only $9 one time fee.

They also have a package deal where you can submit to Greenstalk and 9 other directories for $49.95. I did not see this option until I processed my $9 order. I briefly checked out the other directories and they look good (most of them have strong PR, different IP Class C blocks, not too many listings on a page, and all have static links). I submitted to all of the directories and was listed in one day. They did not advise me of my listings. I will also individually review each directory when I get a chance. The other directories are listed below.

Update: 08/28/05: This directory no longer accepts free submissions and was therefore moved here.

Update 2: 10/22/05: ( + ) Home page PageRank increased from 5 to 6.

Update 3: 02/18/06: ( - ) PageRank has been decreased from 6 to 5.

Update 4: 04/03/06: I contacted the site's owner to ask if they were still offering the multiple directory submission option and they said, yes they were, plus they are offering the 5 links (home + 4 deep links) on all their directories now.

Anews4U Business Directory - A business directory that was formerly free. The site states, "All payments are Non-Refundable (only £7 per submission). Payment doesn't guarantee the listing if doesn't comply with our Submission Guideline". There is not any submission time frame on their site.

Update: About 06/01/05, this directory has discontinued it's free listings and was moved here.

Update 2: 01/23/06: This directory doesn't have any listings in any categories! There used to be listings.

Update 3: 02/18/06: ( - ) The PageRank has been decreased from 4 to 3 and there still are not any listings in this directory.

Easy Eraser Pro Directory - a general directory, without search function, offering several paid submission options, ranging from a one time express submission of $5 to $5 per year to $50 per month for premium listings. They also have a multi-directory submission option for 35 directories for a $135 one time fee (based on their express submission option).

Their submission time frame is stated as "...spots are subject to availability. Express spots are setup in 24-72 hours". They will notify you of your submission status.

Update: This directory permanently discontinued accepting free submissions and will continue as a paid only directory. Therefore, it was moved here. I was reviewed and listed in 9 days when it was free.

Update 2: PageRank™ increased from 1 to 2 on 07/14/05.

Update 3: 10/22/05: This directory is not available at present. I will check again and advise.

Update 4: 02/05/06: This directory is now available (probably before today, but I hadn't checked)

Big All - BigAll.com features a directory, shopping, and online tools. They offer a "Premium" submission process for ~~$9.95~~ $14.95. Submissions are reviewed in 3 business days and will refund your fee if you are not accepted. They will notify you of your acceptance via email. This site was submitted on 03/28/05 (when this was a free directory) and never listed.

Update: 07/24/05: Per info.vilesilencer's update, this directory no longer offers free listings and has raised the "Premium" submission service to $14.95.

Update 2: 02/18/06: ( - ) PageRank has been decreased from 6 to 5 with mixed PR on several datacenters.

Update 3: 07/13/06: ( - ) PageRank decreased from 5 to 0, but the site is still indexed in Google.

ABC Submissions - is a general directory from the folks at Add Link Directory. This directory is on a different class C IP address block. Their directories usually do pretty well, so get in early. Their site states "Submit as many websites as you like. We will accept all of them ASAP".

Update: 02/18/06: ( + ) Their PageRank has increased from 0 to 4 on the majority of the datacenters. Several do show PR 1 and few show PR0 (this is more of a difference than other listings).

Update 2: 04/04/06: ( - ) The PageRank of this directory was reduced from 4 to 1

Update 3: 04/30/08: ( - ) Page Rank down from 1 to 0. Submissions cost $9.95 one-time fee for permanent links.

Anthony Parsons: Internet Directory - A general directory that has 4 options for submittals. One of which is the free listing which requires a link to their partner site I will review their paid options at a later date. * They claim 1 - 4 weeks submission turn around time. This site was submitted on 03/04/05 and I received an email advising approval, should be in their next update on 03/27/05. This site was listed on 04/03/05. This update represented a major overhaul to their format and thus took an extra week. Here is their required partner link: Directory Submission - A one time fee, permanent inclusion web directory.

Update: 07/14/05: PageRank™ reduced from 6 to 5

Update 2: 10/17/06: The free submission option is currently disabled due to large backlog. Their paid options are still available. I will review this situation again later and if the free option continues to be disabled, I will move this directory to paid. Thanks to Julie (Detroit Web Design) for informing me about this.

Update 3: 11/19/06: The free submission option is still disabled due to large backlog, but they are mentioning a new directory rollout, so I will give them a bit more time. I will check on this in a few weeks.

Update 4: 05/10/08: Page Rank ( - ) from 5 to 3. The free submission option is gone. There is a Featured Review for $30, listing in 5 business days, and can be deep linked. The Featured Reviews are listed aboe the Express Reviews. The Express Review is $10, listing in 5 business days, only homepage link allowed.

Add Link Directory - is a new general directory which allows rating of listings. Most of their categories are fairly empty, so now is a good time to submit. There is not any inclusion time frame stated on their site. My site was listed in 5 days and then I submitted a client's site and it was listed in 5 days also. ۩18

Update: 10/01/05: I added a second client's site and it was listed in 7 days.

Update 2: 01/22/06: This site in unavailable temporarily (??)

Update 3: 02/18/06: ( - ) This directory is still offline and the PageRank has decreased from 4 to 0. Therefore, it was moved to Duds (04/01/06)

Update 4: 07/13/06: ( + ) The directory is back online and increased PageRank from 0 to 5 and therefore, was returned to regular listings from duds. They also appear to have lost their original listings. My site is no longer there.

Update 5: 09/28/06: This directory is now showing interior PageRank.

Update 6: 05/10/08: Page Rank ( - ) from 5 to 0. $9.95 one-time fee for permanent links. Quick Acceptance, Top & Highlight Premium Listing - $19.95

Clasione: A Free Webmaster Resource - A general directory that does not require registration. The submission time frame is not stated on the site, but I was listed in 3 days.

Update: I have submitted several client site recently and the process seems to be almost instant at the present time. Your title can not be more than 4 words now.

Frequently Asked - A repository of product/service related and informative websites with online purchasing. That is the text provided for the required link back. No inclusion time frame stated. They send you an email telling you that you have been accepted. My site was listed in 10 days. I submitted a client's site and it was listed in 3 days.

Update: 01/22/06: They are supposedly tightening up on where you link back from: "Frequently Asked will no longer accept returning links on "link pages". Should you only have pages added to your website merely for link exchange it is in your best interest to add a factual organized directory".

Update 2: 05/10/08: Page Rank steady at 5. Quick review - $25. Buy a featured position for only $50 life time of directory.

Kingbloom - is a directory and search engine with free regular and paid Premium submissions. They offer a Premium URL upgrade for a one time fee of $3 which gets you a special listing at the top of the category. They also offer a Super Premium listing for $50 per year which gets you a special listing at the absolute top spot (limited to one per category).

They send you an email notifying you of your acceptance if you provide an email address. After submission the state, "The entry will be reviewed soon". After my approval, I spent the $3 for a Premium Listing and I jumped to the top of 113 listings in the Internet > SEO category.

Update: 05/21/06: They show their free submission option is closed. Dan (SEO Friendly List) has removed them from his list because of this. I am going to give them a little time to see if they open the free listings again.

Update 2: 05/10/08: Free regular link discontinued, now cost $2 for a basic

Sootle Web Directory - Free categorized and human-edited link directory. Add your international website today. That is their requested reciprocal link text. This is a general directory with decent interior page PageRank. Their free listing requires a reciprocal link. They also have a "Premium Submission" option for $19.99 one-time fee for 24 - 48 hour review (refundable if not accepted). They will notify you upon review and there is not any time frame stated on the site.

They appear to accept deep links, so I submitted my Free Directory Listings section on 12/11/05 and will advise on progress.

Update 5/10/08: 24-48 hour review, permanent one-way text link. $19.95 one time payment.

Notes:

G, Y!, M - (IBL Shown) Denotes search engine shows directory as a back link to either this or a client's site. G = Google, Y! = Yahoo!, and M = MSN. Note: Yahoo! is known to show the largest sample of back links, Google only shows a very small sample and MSN shows something in between. The fact the an IBL (inbound back link) is not shown in Google or MSN is not very significant.

§ - There is some debate on whether a 302 scripted redirect passes PageRank™, but due to possible problems the directories that use 302 redirects have been moved to "Duds".

۩ - These directories share the same Class C IP address (/24) block as other directories
